Ministry

Ministry – An Act of Worship

The reigning theme of all creation and redemptive history is that of the true worship of God. (Psalm 8) The word worship encompasses at its core the active idea of ascribing worth to God. From this we understand that true worship is found where God is genuinely exalted in accordance with His Truth. All of Creation was designed for this very purpose and therefore the heavens continually recount the glory of God and His worthiness to be praised. (Psalm 19:1-4)

Mankind was created for this purpose in a very special way and therefore all are called upon to worship the Lord. (Revelation 14:6-7) From this we understand that the highest calling of the believer is to love the Lord his God with all his heart, soul, mind and strength and to love his neighbor as himself. (Mark 12:28-31) No other priority of worship and ministry will do. It is therefore our goal as a church to be defined, not by our programs or activities, but by a God centered worship that saturates all that we say and do.

In our contemporary culture, the word worship is more commonly used in connection with those activities associated with music and singing. While this is certainly an important part of worship, it is just a small component of the overall discussion. In order to better understand what true worship and ministry is, we must go to the Word of God and examine the qualities of a spiritual church. In the pages to follow, we will look at the book of Acts (chapter 2) and carefully examine the Five Qualities of a Healthy Church.
